I pause and look down at the sidewalk again when he doesn't say anything. And I guess that's it, and everything's back to before except we've both betrayed each other and I messed about with Riley on top of it all. Lovely.

"So...we just call it even then?" I ask cautiously. Because after all of that...all of that huge mess of confusion and hurt and everything else...it seems a little strange that it's just...cancelled out. Although maybe that's how it works. I don't know.

"I don't know." I shrug. "I forgive you, anyway." Because I deserve it. Even though what you did was worse. Hm. Would this be what Fitzy was warning me against?

I nod slightly, figuring that it's probably safe to remove my hand from her shoulder now because she seems a bit more composed. "Ah...good, thanks." And I would say it back, but I don't really forgive. Always had a lot of trouble with that, I suppose, and much as she's not on the black list of grudges or anything and is, to all intents and purposes, forgiven...I can't say it. So I suppose I'll just assume she takes it as a given, because what I did was worse so if she forgives me, then I've obviously already forgiven her...or something.
