Had been going through split up with his wife, Shelby Chou. Added stress and confusion caused Jay to drink excessively. One night on way home in a muggle car, Jay had been drunk and drove off the road. He would have been somewhat fine had the road been not been on a bridge, but it was and Jay crashed right into a lake.
