"Mm," I nod. "But newts can zip around so quickly they might evade her eyes or make her dizzy, so you'd think she'd like you better as a human," I say musingly, not really sure if I'm making sense or not. I shake my head. "I think I'll leave you as you are, unless you ever get on my bad side."

Zoe laughs and shakes her head. "I'll try to stay on the good. Wouldn't want to give mum a headache, although she claims that all of us kids are headaches." she says with another laugh. Shell had to laugh at that. "It's true. Normally, one of you are in trouble with something."

I laugh slightly. "Don't doubt it... although you're hardly small," I add, ruffling her hair and actually having to reach up to do so as she's about an inch taller than me.

Zoe laughs and shakes her head. "Is that an older person trait? Ruffling of the hair?" she asks straightening her bangs again. Shell smiles faintly, "Riley, Jay and everone else tends to ruffle her and the other kids hair." she adds looking up at the both of them. "I hate being so short sometimes."

"I suppose it's more of an anyone trait, but something that most people realize they won't get away with unless the other person's younger," I shrug, smiling slightly. I do sympathize though," I add, making a face. "Riley used to ruffle my hair... drove me mad."

Zoe laughs and shakes her head. "He's always doing that to all of us. He even does it to mum and she's clearly older than..." she glances over right when she mentions Shell's age. "I think that's enough." she says with a sigh, giving Zoe a look that ment she was gonna get lectured later. Zoe just laughs and shrugs. "She claims she's twenty five."

I laugh slightly. "Oh, for heaven's sake... I'm older than twenty-five. And it's not as though you're old until you're... fiftyish or so. And that's just from our perspective, so you're probably not really old even then."

"You're not at thirty yet Arden. I'm starting to head for forty." she says with a smile. "But I tell the younger kids that I'm twenty five." she nods.

"Everyone's heading for forty," I say, shaking my head. "Unless they're past. You can't say you're nearly forty for another five years or so. And it's not like thirty's that bad." I shake my head again and turn to Zoe. "Why is your mother age-obsessed?"

"Something about Jay and her want one more kid before her ummm. 'clock' runs out." she whispers, as Shell looks at a couple books on the shelf.

I stifle a smile, then shake my head. "Well, yet again, she seems delusional and convinced she's about ten years older than she is. Since when is over thirty considered old? I mean, other than to five-year-olds?"

"Well, I think it's more of Jenny graduating and how much older we would be than the kid." she shrugs. "I just think she's delusional all together."

"Ah," I nod. "That makes a touch more sense. But I don't doubt it," I add, shaking my head. "She's not still talking to the yellow monkeys when she thinks no one's listening, is she?"
I'm not entirely certain if it's all right to speak like this about a parent to that parent's kid, but I suppose as she's practically an adult herself anyway it's probably all right... not to mention said parent is standing right next to us.

"Yellow monkeys?" She asks, raising an eyebrow slightly at her, but shrugs it off.

"Mm... perhaps not then," I shrug. "Good she's been cured of that."

Zoe just laughs again looking at her as if she had a squirrel on her head. "Umm. Are you crazier than my mum? I didn't think that was possible besides maybe Dad and Briar."
|
|
|
Post by Arden Patricks on Jun 4, 2008 13:36:14 GMT
I laugh slightly, shaking my head. "I'm not crazier than anyone, I'm perfectly sane. She's the one that sees the monkeys, I just reported it."

Zoe shakes her head, tucking a strand of her long hair over her shoulder. "So, has she seen anything else out of the ordinary?"

"I don't know," I shrug, glancing at Shelby and smiling half-apologetically. "You'd have to ask her."

Zoe just shakes her head and looks at Shell with a grin. "So, now that we established that I've seen yellow monkeys, I think we better be going." she nods to Arden with a light smile.

"You too Arden." she says with a nod. "Bye Arden!" she waves slightly before walking right next to Shell back out of the aisle.

I nod a goodbye to the both of them before turning back to the shelf and continuing my scanning.
