I do not spend much time out of the Muggle world these days. I still miss Hogwarts, even after this long, but I’m really not supposed to go hanging ‘round there. I stay away from the hated Ministry anytime I can help it, and would rather go to Muggle hospitals unless Mungo’s is actually necessary. But for books, I’ll make an exception.
I spend nearly half my waking hours around books as it is, but most of them do not ever talk to you, discuss dragons with any real seriousness, or have the potential for getting up and walking away if you’re not nice enough to the binding. So I don’t believe it’s really overkill to spend some of my off hours around books as well, or to venture into the wizarding world in order to do so.
Standing on my tiptoes and craning my neck to see the top shelf in the divination section, I walk slowly sideways and scan the titles, vaguely aware that this is a really good way to run into someone but thinking more about being very thorough in my search for something interesting.

"Are you sure you need a book for divination next year?" Shell sighs looking through the aisles of books for some book called, Seeing into the Stars. Shell was never one for divination seeing as once she took her OWLS for the class she dropped it from her scheldule instantly. Also, the divination teacher was still 'borrowing' her star charts from the tower which lead to bickering in her office.
"Yes mum, I need it." Zoe laughs, carrying a few textbooks in her hands as she looked at the shelves that Shelby couldn't see since she was barely five feet tall, Zoe on the other hand had about six inches over her, definately took after her father in the height department.
"I don't even know why you like that class." she says bumping into a woman that was in the aisle too. "Oh I'm sorry!" Shell says, getting ran over almost by Zoe. "Sorry mum. Arden!" Shell glances up and smiles. "Hey. Haven't seen you in a while."

"Oh - sorry -" I say quickly when I realize I've bumped into someone, our apologies overlapping. I laugh slightly when I see who it is, shaking my head. "Sorry, my fault. And no, we really haven't."
It is, of course, harder to keep touch in people outside school, but it certainly doesn't help that I've become so close to a hermit these last few years, and my only regular contact with other human beings is my family and the few friends close enough to be considered such. Much as there's nothing wrong with Shelby, she doesn't quite count in that category.
"Um... shopping for school things?" I ask for something to say, looking around the aisle and replaying what I heard even though I wasn't paying attention at the time.

Shell smiles lightly and nods. "Yes. Zoe likes to get her books ahead of time and study over the summer. I still wonder why she's in Gryffindor and not Ravenclaw sometimes." she says with a laugh. "So how have you been?" she asks heaving the books she had up in her arms so they wouldn't slip from her grasp.
Zoe turns around and starts searching for the book again, scanning the shelves carefully. "I'll be back mum. Nice seeing you." she says with a nod to Arden before disappearing into the next aisle. "And I wonder how she has manners."

I laugh slightly again as she runs off, then shrug. "Takes after a distant relation and is very brave? I know at least two small ones who take after their aunts rather than parents." I shrug again, remembering she asked me a question, and smiling slightly. "I've been all right. Nothing exciting. How about you?"

"I don't know about that. Both my side and her father's side were either Ravenclaw or Slytherin so it's a switch." she says with a nod. "I think she's the first Gryffindor in the family for at least til my father remembers, but I'm busy running everywhere with the Army still. It's even more of a handful now that Jenny's of age. Keeps bugging me for a new broom." she says with a sigh.

"That must be fun." I laugh slightly, then shrug. "Well... not like Gryffindor's a bad house anyway, so whatever the reason...." I shrug again. I wonder if it would be rude to double-check how many kids she has. I'm vaguely aware of most of their names, but can't really keep them straight.

"Yeah, it's always fun even if it's a lot of hard work to make sure they all stay out of trouble." she says with a smile. "I'm not saying it's a bad house, just that I was suprised that she was placed there. I think I was more suprised that Jenny was placed in Hufflepuff." Shell says with a nod. "But Jay was thrilled when Zoe told us she was in Gryffindor of course."

"I suppose he would be," I nod, laughing slightly. I think I should probably have remembered at least that Jenny is a Hufflepuff. I shake my head. "Sometimes I think I know too many children... can't keep track of them all."

"Him and his Lion pride." she says with a laugh. "Well I don't blame you for not remembering my kids. Way too many of them. I feel the same way. Having all of my godchildren, nieces and nephews it's just crazy." she says with a nod. "Who's children do you know?" she asks, tucking a strand of hair behind her ear.

"Whose children don't I know," I say, rolling my eyes skyward and shaking my head. "Is it just me, or am I the only person in roughly our age category who doesn't have any kids?" I ask, gesturing between the two of us.

Shell nods with a slight frown. "That's true. It seems that we know most of the kids in London, muggle or not." she says with a another nod. Shell thinks for a moment and shakes her head. "No, a lot of my cousins aren't married nor have children." she says with a smile. "And besides, you're still young. You can still if you find someone..." she trails off a bit.

I bite my lip hard, glancing down at the floor a moment, and shake my head. "I only like kids in small doses anyway. I wasn't complaining about that, just the number that I know," I say lightly. It's been three bloody years, don't be so stupid about it.

Shell frowns, hearing from Riley what happened to Arden just a couple years ago. "I'm sorry, I shouldn't have said that..." she says frowning deeply, feeling like an idiot. "Well um. Kids aren't for everyone. Like my cousins love watching the younger ones but they won't have kids." she nods, glancing at the ground as well.

I shake my head quickly, not really wanting to talk about it. "Mm, kids definitely aren't for everyone," I agree. "And I do plenty of the watching, especially of Melody." I'm not actually certain if she knows about Fitzy's infant daughter or not, because I don't know just how thoroughly he's cut ties with people. I'd guess he still talks to her occasionally though... maybe?

Shell nods and frowns a bit. "That's nice of you. I talk to Fitzy once in a while, but not that often anymore." she says with another nod, biting her lip softly. Fitzy was a touchy subject with her seeing as she was almost murdered a handful. "How has he been?"

"Same as usual," I shrug. "Twitchy little hermit who won't meet people's eyes, except for his sister's when he dumps off his kid and gives that pleading look." I shake my head, shrugging again.

"Same old same old with him then? Figures, no offense." she says quickly realizing it probably wasn't right to talk about her family like that, even if she didn't like him that much anyway.

"No, I'm hardly offended." I shake my head. "It is the same as usual. And I really, really wish he'd take better care of Melody rather than assuming I know what I'm doing better than he does, even if he's right." I shake my head again, deciding this really is something I maybe shouldn't go on about. ((I have no idea who Melody's mother is supposed to be, by the way, or what the story is there. ))

Shell shakes her head lightly. "I guess he was right then. he'd be a terrible godfather. I asked him years ago to, but he just laughed and turned me down. I still don't know what I was thinking with being his friend." she says with a frown. "But anyway, how's the library?" she asks remembering the last time that she seen Arden she worked at a muggle library somewhere. [[Ah. I'm sure you will sooner or later.]]

I sigh silently, shaking my head and deciding not to agree she must have been temporarily mad. "It's pretty well," I shrug. "Full of books and such... people... quietness. How's teaching?"

She smiles a bit. "What would happen if I came in your library with my kids?" she asks as her smile was growing more. "Teaching is teaching. Spitballs, paper airplanes, anything thrown at me that's paper related, but other than that pretty good." she says.

I laugh slightly again, then shrug. "Turn them all into newts. It'd teach them a lesson. That's not what I'd do to your kids though," I add quickly, realizing it could be taken that way.

"Aww. Why not? That should be fun, seeing as Jenny tells the younger ones to do something that usually ends up in some disaster that I have to clean." she says with a laugh, seeing that Zoe came back with her book in hand.

"Ask me what?" she asks looking at Arden to Shell with a confused look on her face. "Go ahead Arden." she says with a smile to her and then looks over to Zoe with a straight face. Zoe raises an eyebrow at Shell, then glances over at Arden once more. "What is she planning now?" she asks smiling at her.

Zoe raises her eyebrows as well, putting her index finger to her chin. "Once again, I think that depends. It matters on if you are willingly to turn me back or not, but I prefer to stay as a human thanks." she says with a nod. "But mum isn't, she has eyes in the back of her head..." she says rolling her eyes a bit.
