"Okay, come on Lex, keep up," i call softly over my shoulder, hoisting Abby up higher in my arms. She's still half asleep, I don't blame her. Six am is a ridiculously early time for a three year old to be awake. Then again, I'm still half asleep and I'm twenty eight. I'd never been much of a morning person anyways. It's really quite cold for a summer morning, but no matter, and I gently tug her jacket closer around her. I turn around, stifling a laugh as I watch Alex and Poppy struggle with the suitcases. I hadn't realized until now how much junk we had actually gotten over the years. Ten years was a long time. And within those ten years my family had grown. Yes, a couple of miscarriages and stillborns, but no matter. I had Poppy, Alex and Abby. And of course there's Finely, I've told him we're leaving, and I've given him the choice to come with us. He's said no of course. At least I tried this time around.
"Need a hand you two?" I call, making my way over to Alex and Poppy.
Alex shakes his head stubbornly, tugging on the suitcase, "I got it," He mutters.
"Bag's half your size," Poppy mutters, circling around Alex,"Let her help."
"I said I got it," He snapped.
Poppy threw her hands up in a gesture of surrender,"Fine, Jesus."
"Alex," I scold softly. Seems that for once the only morning person in the family, doesn't seem that happy to be up this early.
"Why are we leaving?" Alex asks, trying to keep the exhausted tone out of his mouth, pushing his hair back off his forehead.
He has no idea how much he looks like Ian.
"Cos baby," I murmur, settling one hand on Poppy's shoulder as she moves past me,"We're starting fresh,"
It's really hard to believe. I didn't think we were really going to go through it. I mean, we were just talking. The topic came up so suddenly. Ian and I had been standing outside Abby's ward.
We're leaving. For good this time. All of us this time too.
I can't help but feel like we're running.
We're not though. We're starting over. At least, that's what I keep telling myself.
Glancing around, I smile slightly to myself.
We're near Hagrid's Hut. I hadn't realized before hand. "Haven't been here in almost ten years," I whisper softly.
This is where it all started. This place held a lot of memories for me. It was were I first told Ian I loved him.The first time I kissed him was here as well.
I turn around, looking up at the castle. That was where Ian and I had our first argument as well.
"So much for Hogwarts,"
I turn my attention back to Alex, who's absently kicking at some stones. I feel horrible, I'm crushing my son's dreams. He's waited for Hogwarts since the day he could talk.
"It's not the end of the world Tiger Cub," I murmur softly, putting my free hand on his shoulder,"We're starting over. Starting new. You'll see, it's gonna be better this time around."
