David stifled a yawn and contemplated the fact all over again that he shouldn't even be here. It was his day off, and he'd been working every day this week so far anyway so it wasn't as if he needed to make up any hours even. It wasn't as if he was making any extra money by being here - oh the joys of unpaid overtime.
He was here because him and another auror had managed to make another arrest successfully yesterday, and said other auror hadn't bothered to catch up with paperwork, so David - who was loath for things to go unfinished and tended to lose sleep if he knew he had something uncompleted that he could have done - had come in to finish everything up. Thank you Nathan, He thought with the least amount of disdain he could as he shot a glance down the cubicles to where he knew his friend's was.
He was friends with Nathan's family, close friends with his cousins and all the rest. He knew about Nathan's current situation and was happy to pitch in and finish up as much work as he possibly could when Nathan couldn't, but he still really didn't like him sometimes and was contemplating never going out on a job with him again. Or at least not for a while. Because although Nathan had to get home to his children, so did David.
It wasn't as urgent for David, admittedly, but he'd still have liked to be home with Emma and the kids whenever he could be. He saw Emma at work anyway, as they worked in the same department, but obviously, Daniel and Daniella and Hayden and Joshua were all at home and he hadn't seem them all day. He didn't like that.
Up's and down's of overtime, he supposed, chancing a brief glance at the one picture he had taped to the side wall of his cubicle. He wasn't one for plastering his work area with pictures of his family like some of the others around here, but he had one, enough to remind him when he was getting too involved in his work and needed to pack it in and go home. He was getting too involved.
Setting down his quill halfway through a sentence, he pulled his jacket off of the chair and headed out into the main office. He could always go back and finish the paperwork tomorrow...there was no big rush.

Hayley had decided that she wasn't to thrilled with her job at St. Mungos despite having worked four years as an intern to get the job! But after the four years of internship, and 3 years of being a healer as a full time job, Hayley grew bored. She hadn't quit yet, but she was on the search for a new job.
There was lots she could pursue. She had done well in school like a typical Ravenclaw. The only subject that had been her down fall was History of Magic. It was too boring for her.
Hayley's search led her to the Ministry of Magic. Hayley was thinking somewhere along the lines of a job in the Department of Magical Law Enforcement, or the Department of Mysteries. Hayley only heard rumors about what they did in the Department of Mysteries, and thats what made it so interesting to her. If all else failed, she would try the Department of Magical Accidents and Catastrophes. Hayley decided to try Magical Law Enforcement first of the second floor.
The second floor consisted of the Auror's offices, Misuse of Muggle Artifacts and the Wizengamot. Hayley had immediately out ruled Misuse of Muggle Artifacts because Muggle studies was one of the few classes she hadn't bothered to take. She figured she already knew enough about muggles. To be an Auror sounded cool to her, but she wondered if she had what it takes. Hayley made her way into the main office, to see if there was anyone there.

When he was standing outside his cubible, he wondered whether he'd acted too rashly. He could hear the faint bustling of other people in the department and the occasional shuffling of papers in other cubicles, but as it was a Saturday, it wasn't exactly full in here at the moment. So there was little distraction to be had, so he could really finish the paperwork quickly and not spend the rest of the day stressing over the fact that it wasn't done.
On the other hand, he thought as he glanced at his watch and saw that time was ticking on, he probably wouldn't have much of a day left by the time he got out of here anyway. And he'd promised he'd take Hayden to the park that morning. He couldn't very well do that if he was cooped up in the place he seemed to spend every waking moment at times.
Shrugging on his jacket over his shoulders, he glanced back over his shoulder to see if anyone else was about, and promptly clipped his shoulder against someone elses who was walking in the opposite direction. "Sorry."

Hayley was worrying over what would happen if she couldn't find a job at the ministry. Would she go back to St. Mungos or would she move of looking some where else? And where was somewhere else? Hayley was not the kind of person to be a shop keeper. She couldn't even see herself working in Gringotts. Maybe Hayley could work for the Daily Prophet. These were only her last resort jobs.
Making her way through the hall ways, Hayley felt someone's shoulder hit her. When he apologized, Hayley said, "Whatever, anyone could have done it."

David raised an eyebrow at that, actually glancing at her properly. He probably would have kept walking once the apology had been accepted, but due to her terse reply he took the time to actually look at her and realised he didn't know who she was. David had worked here for thirteen years, he knew most everyone on this floor and a lot of people on other floots to boot, but he did not know her and this lead him to believe that she shouldn't be here.
"You supposed to be in this department?" He asked politely, a faint smile flickering at the edge of his lips. This was about as close as David ever got to to scowling when he was talking to someone else...he couldn't just not smile at someone, even if he hadn't taken a liking to them.

Hayley could tell this wasn't good. It never was a good thing to be in a place you don't really belong. There was always the worry of being kicked out. "Technically, as of now, no." Hayley responded, wondering what would happen. "But I hope to be." she added in. Hayley was worried that within just minutes here she had screwed up her whole chance of getting a new job.

"You here for an interview or testing...?" He asked, arching an eyebrow in an almost cynical way. So the war was over, David had not stopped being paranoid. The war was not over for him yet, he doubted it would ever be over for him. It was part of his job and a big part of the whole bloody auror office to tie up the loose ends...those mad ex-death eaters still running around.

"I'm here for an interview. I'm looking into a change in jobs." Hayley said. She doubted it would ever happen. Hayley was good at her job, but she never really liked it. By working at St. Mugos she was making a difference like she wanted too, but she was bored of dealing with everyone else's medical problems and injuries. Especially after what happened to Riley she knew she couldn't stay there.

"I see," His expression softened slightly, but not completely and he nodded just a little. "Do you need help finding anywhere, or are you just looking around?"

"I'm just looking around." Hayley said before realizing how stupid that sounded. She knew she wanted a new job, yet she didn't know what yet. It was so typical of her.

David glanced behind him at the row of cubicles and then back at her, "That's really about all there is to see." Then he shrugged slightly, "So what made you want to join our merry throng then?"

"Its a long story, but to make a long story short, I'm sick of my old job. Being a healer is just not for me anymore." Hayley said. She didn't want to get into the whole Riley story. In fact she just wanted to forget about it completely, and that is exactly why she needed a new job.

"A healer, we could use a few of those. Medical training never goes amiss in this line of work," He rolled his eyes slightly, then held out his hand, "I'm David by the way. David Saunders."

"I'm Hayley McMicken." Hayley said shacking his hand. "Nice to meet you." Hayley was glad to hear that if she got a new job she wouldn't have wasted 7 years of her life working hard as a healer. It wasn't easy getting that job, and Hayley hoped that she was now throwing it away for something better.

"It's gruelling though," He felt he should warn her before she got further in considering this path of career, "Three years of training before you can even get started, and it's not easy. No matter how much experience you clock up." That was true, he'd worked here for thirteen years and he still slipped up as frequently as everyone else did, regardless of how much time they'd spent here.

"Three years of training? I had to do four before I was an official healer." Hayley said. The only reason to be a healer might require more years of training is that as a healer, you could directly be saving someone, but with one mistake that could be the end of them. "Nothing worthwhile is ever easy."

He nodded at that, "Very true." He didn't even think this was worthwhile anymore. David had lost his wife to this cause, and for what? A failed mission. He'd never see her again, missing in action, presumed dead. No, he didn't see how this was worthwhile compared to what it'd cost him. "Good luck to you then," He tilted his head after a moment, "I hope it works out for you. Has to work for some, I suppose."

"A bit of luck is exactly what I could use right now." Hayley admitted. Everying down hill for about a month now. Any improvement would be gladly welcomed. The way David spoke though about work made Hayley nervous. What if she had made the wrong choice?

"Sorry, I shouldn't say things like that," He shook his head, "It's a lot safer here now than it was a little while back. Just routine stuff, mostly. I'm sure everything'll be fine."

"Yeah. Eventually everything always turns out fine." Hayley said. Hayley knew that was a lie, but it was a lie she liked to believe. "It doesn't matter anyways, anything is an improvement to St. Mungos."
