Poppy was doing something very strange, even by her standards. She was braiding her hair.
Poppy barely ever brushed her hair, it seemed and she definitely didn't obsess over it. Most of the time she seemed unwilling to touch it even and would just blow it out of her eyes occasionally.
But here she sat, leaning forward on the couch, having combed her fingers briefly through her hair and now braiding it into a long neat plait.
Anything to distract herself from homework.
Her homework sat on the table in front of the couch. The parchment was completely bare, the books were all open to semi-appropriate pages and spread out across the whole surface so no one else could use it.
Her quill was lying untouched and neatly arranged to be parallel next to the edge of the parchment itself.
She didn't feel like doing Charms tonight. She never felt like doing Charms really, homework particularly.
But she didn't feel like doing anything tonight.
She was sort of strangely listless. She never thought she would reach the point of boredom where she was just apathetic, but it seemed she'd surpassed it.
She was sick of Hogwarts now. She couldn't wait for these last few weeks of term to hurry up and pass her by so she could go home.
God how she wanted to go home.
Stifling a yawn, she combed her fingers furiously through the plait to unweave all the strands of hair from each other again and tossed her hair carelessly back over her shoulder.
Okay, time to concentrate.
She leant forward a little bit, picked up her quill, tapped it a few times on the parchment...no, she couldn't do it.
She flicked her hair over her other shoulder and meticulously began braiding it from a different angle.
