"Thatta boy." Nyx commented softly to her snowy owl, Aeros. She pet the little creatures head and fed him an owl treat, a present for bringing her mail. In a way, Nyxie felt a little bad for her pet; hardly any mail came for her, which meant that it's job was virtually useless. On the rare occasion, however, her Aunt Juliana wrote to her. Her own mother never wrote to her (for fear of whatever her husband, Nyx's father, might do to her if she did) but it was always nice to keep in touch with her aunt. She usually kept Nyx updated on the happenings of the family and any other juicy gossip she came across. A small package had come with the letter too, but Nyxie set that aside in order to read the letter first.
'Nyx, darling! How have you been my dear? Keeping my son in line for me, I hope. You and I both know what a little mischief-maker he is. Give a little kiss to Sasha for me, too. She really looks up to you, you know. Better you than Harlequinn, of course. Both of us know what a little narrow-minded, pretentious, drama-queen she has blossomed into. If you ever turn out like that, I will never send you any of my good gossip letters again! Just wanted to see how you were doing, my sweet. Don't be afraid to write back, I miss hearing from you!
All the best luck, wishes, and love, Auntie Juli'
Nyx set the letter down for a moment, allowing a little chuckle to rise in her chest. Even her Aunt Juli knew what a bitch her cousin Harlequinn had turned into. It really wasn't such a surprise, however. That had just been the way she was raised. In a way, Nyx sort of felt sorry for her. Of course, she wouldn't ever let anyone know that. Tossing the thoughts aside, she lunged for the tiny package, wondering what on earth her aunt had sent her. A moment away from opening it, she turned around in quick surprise when she heard the door of the Owlery begin to open.

Years ago, back when Quinn was in her first year at Hogwarts, she received lots of letters for her family. Her parents only sent them out of fear that she would be influenced by muggle borns, Gryffindors, and other trash that filled Hogwarts, and they wanted to check up on her. Years later, they were finally reassured that Quinn had turned into the girl they wanted her to be. Because of this, the letters had stopped coming in such a frequency, but about every month or so, she would receive a letter from her mother and father. They all usually said about the same things. For example, the most recent letter she received read:
Dear Harlequinn, We have received your previous letter and are glad to hear that you are well, and doing great in school. Don’t let your grades drop. Always remember to stay away from bad influences like Gryffindors, and those cousins of yours. Always stay pure. Keep in touch. Sincerely, Your mother and father.
That was it. Their letters were usually short, simple and to the point. Quinn practically knew what they would write in all their letters, so often didn’t bother reading them. Instead, she would just crumble the letter up, and toss it out. It wasn’t like she cared about what they had to say anyways.
While they only sent short letters, Harlequinn knew they expected long detailed letters about all of her classes from her. They just wanted to make sure Quinn was doing as instructed, but she found it so annoying, and a waste of her time. Having written a reply to the letter, she made her way up to the Owlery to mail her letter.
When she opened the door, she scowled as she saw her cousin Nyx there. She was exactly the cousin her parents wanted her parents wanted her to stay away from. They didn’t have anything to worry about because Quinn hated Nyx. Before her parents started breeding her into a proper pure blood, they got along pretty well, but now things were different. Quinn’s own, Hades flew over to her. Her parents got him for her when she was sorted into Slytherin. Ofcourse, they named him after the god of the underworld. Quinn didn’t particularly like the name, but it stuck. “Oh. It’s just you.” Quinn said.

She wasn't exactly sure why the noise had startled her. After all, this was a public place in the castle that students could go to anytime they felt like it. As a matter of fact, Nyx probably should have just expected someone to come in. But as her eyes flicked to the doorway, she saw noneother than her self-centered cousin standing before her. Instantly, her eyes narrowed. "Joy." Nyxie breathed, speaking low under her breath so as to not be heard. What a glorious meeting. Really, this was just going to be the icing on top of the cake for today. The high point of her day. And if nobody knew that was sarcasm, they would have had to of been mentally incompetent.
Rolling her eyes, she pet Aeros one more time before grabbing the letter and stuffing it into her pocket. "And what a pleasure it is to see you, Quinn." Nyx flashed her a smile that was more fake than a widow's at her husband's funeral. There wasn't any question about the "complicated" relationship her and her cousin shared. Actually, it wasn't complicated at all. They hated each other, plain and simple as that. People around the school knew it, and even got a kick at seeing the two meet or bump into each other around the school. Usually when that happened, fireworks were about to begin. Neither one of them could simply walk by each other without making a comment that got the other one pissed off.
However, Nyx hoped today would be different. She wasn't really in the mood for the routine, I-hate-you and I-hate-you-more spats she and Harlequinn got into.
"You might wanna try feeding that owl a little more, its looking a little thin." Nyx commented, "And while you're at it, you might want to treat its bruises after getting beat with that ugly stick." Well, maybe she couldn't help herself. She wasn't one to pass up opportunites to insult Quinn in some way. And Nyxie knew that Harlequinn liked her owl very much, it being a special present from her parents and all. [/blockquote]
