Bella muttered to herself as she grabbed both of the items on her list. "Oh, I love these!" Ashlyn grinned as she took a bite of a Canary Cream, a cream filled custard. "Ashlyn, don't!" Bella said quickly, but Ash had already swallowed and a second later turned into a canary. A laugh escaped Bell's lips and she shook her head. "What's your sisters favorite? Jelly Slugs right?" Ashlyn whistled, like canaries do. Isabella nodded and grabbed some of the sweet treats; even though there was no promise she would even get to see her daughter. 'Oh well, Cam could give them to her for me.' She thought with slight coldness. A friend had to give everything to her own daughter for her. The shop was quiet except for Ashlyn's constant whistling and a tick of a nearby clock. Bella sighed as she brought all of her sweets to the counter at the front of the shop.[/ul]

If there's anything more twitch-inducing than taking a group of small children into a sweetshop that's already crowded with other small children and the like, I only want to know about it so that I can avoid it like the plague.
I honestly thought it was a joke when Lilith showed up on my doorstep with my niece and nephew in tow and told me I was taking them to Hogsmeade, but clearly it wasn't meant to be and I really shouldn't laugh at such things. Lacey, thank god, is taking care of Melody today - as she has been every day since I let her move in - but she says that the other two are none of her business due to not being related to her.
"Pick out whatever you want, but only one thing," I mutter to Micheal, barely aware if he's listening or too overwhelmed with excitement at being surrounded by so much sugar. "You too," I add to his creepily silent sister, trying to shake her off my hand, but she just shakes her head and smiles up at me. Dammit. The kid's been attached like a vise ever since we left the house.

She said in a teasing tone. "Are these your children too?" Ashlyn came around the corner and added another arm full of candy to the pile on the counter. Isabella shook her head. "That kid and candy..." She looked down to the little girl attatched to Fitzy. "Are you sure you don't want candy? The chocolate frogs are the best." Bella added with a warm smile.[/ul]

"Heaven forbid," I mutter, looking up when I hear Bella talking to me. "They're Lilith's, and this one won't let go of me." I give my hand another shake, but Isabel just looks up reproachfully, as if to ask how dare I try to let her loose in a crowd of strangers. Then, to my surprise, she looks over at Bella, shaking her head solemnly and speaking in a whisper. Just a single word - "no" - but still impressive. The kid barely even talks to me.
"I'm pretty sure her brother told her that they're real frogs." I shrug slightly, then nod over to the little girl piling up candy. "That one yours?"

She stared at the little and shook her head. Actually, she wished her kids were like that, instead they run around talking to complete strangers. Why couldn't they be innocent forever? When then little girl whispered something, Bella looked back down at her. "Oh, well that's okay, sweetie.""Her brother hasn't tried to get her off of you?" She asked softly so only he could hear her. When he nodded towards Ash, she glanced over at her daughter before looking back at Fitz. "My oldest." She nodded. "Ashlyn. She's like Jack." She said randomly.[/ul]

"Which would probably mean something to me if I knew Jack," I say, raising my eyebrows, then shrugging. "Micheal is kind of the opposite of Issy here. He likes to be free to run around like a maniac, inviting himself to be kidnapped and knocking things over." I shake my head slightly, even while I'm wandering where he's gone off to and at what point I should look for him.

She trailed off. Her eyes fell to the floor for a moment before looking back up at Fitz. "I actually wish my kids were calm like Issy. Micheal sounds a lot like my own." She smiled and laughed lightly. "How've you and Mel been?" This one question usually brought their good mood to an end. It opened a whole new mass of questions everytime. 'Damn curiousity,' She thought bitterly, her thoughts moving from one subject to the next.[/ul]

"Be careful what you wish for," I say, raising my eyebrows. "She gets a little spooky sometimes. And clingy, as you can see." I hold up my and Issy's hands as evidence, then shrug. "She's been fine, I've been fine. How about you?" I'm trying to remember if Jack is her husband or something, and who that one guy was that had broken her heart the last time I saw her. If they're the same I wonder why she's still with him.

Though that wasn't saying much. She stayed in her thoughts a lot. "How did Lilith manage to make you take the kids out anyway?" Her smile fell slightly. "That's good. I'm better. I actually made up with Jack." She gave a small nod as if words weren't enough. [/ul]

"Born that way, I guess." I shrug slightly, then half-laugh. "Guilt and threats, mostly. Arden just got dumped so she couldn't." But I don't want to either talk or think about that. "He's not the one who messed you around and cheated on you, is he?" I ask suspiciously.

Bella offered. "Aw. Poor Arden. And figures, with the threats and such." She laughed and shook her head. Her smile fell and she looked down, her cheeks flushing slightly. "Yes, he is..." Her voice was quiet as she played with her hands.[/ul]

"No, I think it's just a family trait." I shrug slightly, then frown in disapproval at the last thing she says. I'm starting to conclude that women are idiots. "Arden brought it all on herself, kind of like you."

Bella said in a low voice, moving her eyes to him. "And like me, I think Arden had good intentions for what ever happened with her." She said only in Arden's defense.[/ul]

I sigh exasperatedly, shaking my head. "Same as you, actually. And I don't mean any offense; just tired of people I care about being idiots when it comes to men."

She laughed bitterly and kicked at the ground, moving her eyes to her feet. That was the center of all her problems: being in love.[/ul]

"Something that I doubt I'll ever understand," I mutter in reply, shaking my head. "Sometimes I don't think I'm human." I become aware again of Isobel's existence when she snatches her hand out of the loose hold I've got it in, staring up at me with enough alarm that I can't stifle a grin of amusement.

"About ourselves or me specifically?" I ask dryly, then shake my head at my niece. "I'm not going to eat you, Issy."

She said thoughtfully, in a dry sense of humor way. Bella glanced over at the little girl with a small smile. "No, he stopped eating munchkins several years ago." She gave another nod.[/ul]

"Thought that was what you were saying," I say dryly back, then nod. "Mm-hmm. Once I saw how ugly your brother was, I decided I couldn't eat him without feeling sick, so I just gave it up all together." Isobel graces us with one of her rare smiles at that, and I can't help but smile as well.
