"She's a sweetheart," I grin down at Abby, but turn around as I hear Alex. "Mum!" "Jesus," I murmur, turning around. Alex sticks his head in the doorway, sheepish grin tugging at the corner of his lips,"Alright, how much trouble would I be in if I accidently broke something?" Frowning, I hoist Abby higher up in my arms."What you break?"

"Would it be irresponsible to take him and leave fast?" I ask, half gesturing at the door behind us. I don't even want to know what he's broken, but it's probably best not to know.

"In all honesty I think that'd be the best idea," I murmur, hoisting Abby up higher in my arms, and shooting Alex a look. "Get your coat," He grins,"So I can leave this prison then?" I nod,"Yeah, then you can march home and into your room," "What?!" "You heard me, coat now."

A couple of years ago I'd probably have pointed and laughed at him behind Maddie's back, but I can't exactly do that now. I don't feel like I should really even talk to my son anymore, and that's quite bleak. So I sort of slip my hands awkwardly into my pockets.

Alex glances up over at Ian, as if asking him to help him out, but a split second later he remembers that he hates him and shakes his hair stubbornly into his eyes, looking down at his shoes. I sigh softly at this, glancing back at Ian, who's looking just as awkward. "So, home sound good?"

"Don't be so negative about this," I mumur, gently putting my hands on Alex's shoulders, steering him towards the door. "Come on, stop with the sad faces everyone, let's go home." "Finally," Alex murmurs, keeping his gaze on the floor. "Wouldn't be here if someone hadn't jumped out a window, and missed the branch."

I roll my eyes at her back, having to bite my tongue to stop myself from saying that I'm always negative so she's fighting a losing battle, then promptly pretend not to exist so I don't have to take any part in the conversation and risk making things more awkward than they already are.

I glance innocently behind me at that, as if I have no idea who she's talking to, then jump slightly and nearly drop Abby as she throws her arms in the air. "Jesus Christ, baby. Don't get so overexcited there."

Alex just rolls his eyes, watching Ian before jamming his hands into his pockets. "She did the same thing yesterday when she saw a butterfly," "Butterfly!" Abby grins. I can't help but laugh softly,"Nearly gave your Da an attack there baby,"

[color=skyblue"What are you talking about? She never shuts up," Alex mutters, absently kicking the floor. "When?" I ask raising an eyebrow. "All the time, when you two are at work and out and whatever it is you do," I glance over at Abby, before looking back at Alex,"How come she'll talk infront of you?" Alex shrugs, grinning sheepishly,"Cos she likes me, that's why."

I can tell Alex is fighting back a grin of his own, and I resist the urge to roll my eyes at both of them. They need to stop being so stubborn and let their gaurds down. Of course they won't though. That's why their father and son after all. "Oh? That so Lex?" He nods. "Course, you two are old. No one likes talking to old folks,"
