I nod, trying to suppress an inexplicable, slightly bemused smile as I follow her instructions. What in the hell I'm amused about is completely beyond me, but it gets harder every second to keep an actual grin from breaking out.

Shell glances up slightly at him, confused at his expression. "What? Why are you grinning at me for?" she asks placing her hands on either side of her hips.

"Does this honestly look like a grin?" I ask, turning to her with raised eyebrows... and, unfortunately, failing at that exact moment to suppress a real grin breaking out.
((Can't be bothered to switch; computer's too slow.))

"Yes, yes it is!" she says with a grin of her own, pointing at the evidence. "So why are you smiling then?" Shell laughs a little bit before bitting her lip softly to try to hide her smile.

"No idea," I say honestly, shaking my head as I turn away and struggle to control my expression. "Apparently, you're amusing." I shrug slightly, setting the pot on the stove.

"And why am I amusing?" she asks curiously still trying to hide her smile as she took out another pot for the sauce to cook in as well. "It can't be my looks or my mind could it?" Shell teases, laughing again.

"Well, it might be the latter," I shrug, still smiling faintly as I lean back against the counter. I'm not feeling enough like a five-year-old, channeling of Micheal aside, to declare her 'funny-looking,' and it's only belatedly that I realize what I've just said could be taken as a compliment. Not that there's any reason not to give one.... "But you'd probably know more than I would, because I have no idea," I finally finish, shaking my head at myself and the strange, rambly turn my thoughts have taken.

"Smiling and compliements? You must have a fever." she says softly still in a teasing tone. Once she had the noodles and sauce cooking, Shell walks over to Fitzy and playfully puts a hand to his forehead briefly. "You don't seem warm."

"Or maybe... never mind, I've got nothing." I shake my head, laughing slightly at my own inability to come up with a retort after dodging away from her hand with a brief annoyed look. She does have a point though, and I really can't explain this very strange mood.

Shell just shakes her head at him slightly before going back to cooking. "Whatever you say Fitzy." she says laughing a little before stirring the sauce around a bit so it wouldn't burn.

I nod very briefly in reply, frowning just a little now in puzzlement and having nothing more to say. I happen to glance over at Melody then, just in time for her to laugh and throw her hands up toward the ceiling. Again, a faint half smile shows up on my face, and I suddenly want to get out of here.

Shell looks over her shoulder slightly and frowns at him. "What's wrong? We were actually having fun." she says with a weak smile before letting out a deep sigh. Turning around completely Shell smiles at Melody as she was still laughing before Shell looks up at the ceiling laughing now herself before frowning back at Fitzy.

"I don't know...." I shake my head, frowning slightly more now and glancing over at Melody again - at which her smile disappears and I inwardly wince... though it can't be very likely that she actually registered my expression, can it? "I'm just... not used to having fun, I guess." I shrug uneasily. It's as good an explanation as any... I think.

Shell sighs, almost tempted to throw her hands in the air. "You always thought I was confusing. You're the one who always confused me Fitzy." she says softly with a frown now on her lips instead of the former smile still stirring the sauce and watching the pasta noodles carefully.

"Maybe we have minds on opposite ends of some spectrum then," I shrug... involuntarily glancing at Melody again. "Sorry for... ruining the mood, I guess." But a mood like that makes me uneasy. It's unnatural, at least for me.

"Right. We're just back to the normal of talking and not smiling and having a nice happy conversation." she says with sigh, just shrugging herself before taking out the noodles and putting them into a serving bowl as Shell added the sauce on top.

I really don't have a response to that, and decide to frown faintly at the floor as if maybe it will give me one. It occurs to me that perhaps the weirdest thing about all this is that I wish I could take it back and return to the weirdness of before, even though I know it would make me uneasy. "So you prefer the smiling then to normalcy?" I ask after a moment, just for the sake of saying something.
((Adios, me deary... methinks that I should leave now.))

"Yes I do Fitzy. I know it's normal for you to be like that, but that smiling and having fun is my normal." Shell says softly looking up at him with a weak smile before walking over to the kitchen table. "Could you get some plates? Two or three?" she nodding over to Melody slightly.

Guess we're just completely incompatible then, I think but don't say - partially because there's something wrong with the word choice. "You planning to feed your own kid?" I ask instead, heading over to the cupboard. Melody's still a bit small to be eating spaghetti... I think... but I pull out three plates anyway on the assumption that James is going to eat.

[[Remember Shell can read thoughts... but I'll ignore that. XD]]
"Right. Sorta forgot about him for the moment. He's too quiet sometimes." she says softly before walking back into the living room and waking James up. A few minutes later, James walks in with a sleepy smile and sits down at the table waiting for the spaghetti to be served.

((Oh... can she? That's intriguing.)) "Hm." I resist the brief urge to make a sarcastically virtuous comment about her parenting skills, instead focusing on the fact that the plates I've just pulled out are dusty and there's a dead spider stuck to one of them.

Shell looks down at the plate and cringes slightly, but James is rather intrigued by the spider. "Looks like you're plates are a bit dirty." he says beaming up at Fitzy's as Shell takes the plates and starts to wash them in the sink.

"Nah, I just like dust," I shrug, looking at James deadpan. "And spiders. Have you ever tried spiders? Nutritious." Stifling a smile, I then to Shelby with raised eyebrows. "I was just about to do that, you know."

"I guess you're a little slow then." she says giving him a light smile over her shoulder before James laughed to himself. "I don't think mum would like me eating a spider, even if it was nutritious."

"I think it's the thing of it's a bug." he says shrugging as well. "Then what else could it be? That you're distracted by my son's questions or I'm just quicker than you?" she asks as her smile grew a little bit.

"Either or both?" I shrug again, still half-smiling. "And spiders aren't bugs, by the way. They're arachnids." I pause, then shake my head. "Now who's slow?"

James gasps slightly laughing a little. "Are you implying that James or I or the both of us are slow Fitzy?" she asks walking back to the table with the newly cleaned plates setting them back on the table as she glanced up at him with a smile still on her face. It seemed to be plastered there.

Shell gasps, causing James to grin to himself. "Why don't you two just kiss and get it over with? Is that right? Jenny says it to Zoe and Ashlyn all the time." he says looking at the both of them curiously as a pink shade flushes through her cheeks. "A-are you calling me old Fitzy?" Shell asks softly trying to ignore what her son just said.
