This is mildly off-topic, but it's just one of those words that tends to get to me. Like trust. Or like Arden is with 'pedantic.' Never understood that one.

"No, of course not," I say quickly. "Not... scared. And it's not that I can't trust or care about her, but it's probably best if...." I trail off, losing track of my argument. All I know is that she's somehow managing to hit all my trigger buttons at once - love, trust, and innocence. Foreign, dangerous words that I can't wrap my head around and don't really want to, so instead I react irrationally.

Granted, I technically had parents. But I'm assuming she means parents who actually give a damn as opposed to torturing or abandoning you.
