Dorcas smiled as she walked up to a familiar house: one that she hadn’t seen in over ten years. As she looked at it, she remembered how much she missed her old live, her old friends, her old job, and everything else she left behind when she went into hiding. That life just seemed so far away, that it was hard to remember. Up until a week ago, Cassy had been in France. She liked France but it wasn’t her home, and neither was Japan, America, Ireland, Spain, Italy, or any of the other places she had been too. Home was right here, and she missed it so much. Cassy couldn’t help but wonder what her future life would be like. Would her friends and most of all her two daughters accept her back? She had after all left them thinking she was dead for two years. Dorcas wasn’t sure, but she was ready to find out. Cassy was sick of hiding, and wanted her old life back. As Cassy walked up to the door she hesitated for a moment. What if the worst happened? Dorcas shook her head, and whispered to herself, “Stop thinking that. What happens happens.” Taking one last fleeting glance and the road she had come from, Cassy knocked on the door.

"Okay okay, calm down. I'll be right back." "But mum, you said you'd play with my action figures today with me..." "I'll be right back James." Ever since quidditch started up again, Shell was hardly home that long, only home enough to make dinners, turn them into leftovers and maybe tuck the kids in when they went to bed. Shell hated having nannies but with no one to watch them or even a husband, she had to. Obviously the kids weren't too thrilled about this seeing as Shell was home most of the time and her life always revolved around them. It had to be difficult for them now as they were older. "You promised!" James whines again as she opens the door and seeing Cassy right in front of her. "I must be really tired..." she says softly as she closed her eyes and opened them again to see if she was still there and of course she was. "How can this be?"

No matter how worried she may have been Cassy couldn’t help but smile. She hadn’t seen Shelby in years. There were numerous times when Dorcas considered returning home. There was nothing for her in the rest of the world. Right now though, Cassy couldn’t help but feel the wait was worth it, if just to see the look of Shelby’s face. “Nope. It’s me all right.” Cassy said laughing running a hand through her now short hair, just a bit surprised she was still that easily recognized. For some reason, Cassy didn’t want to answer Shelby’s question. In the back of her mind, Cassy wondered if Shelby would hate her. All these years, Cassy had pretended to be dead. The least she could have done was sent a post card or something. If Shelby hated her, she wouldn’t be surprised. If Cassy was someone else, she probably would have hated herself. For now, Cassy decided to ignore the question. Long boring explanations could wait till later.

"Really... you're here?" she says softly again, as James walked out onto the porch and up at Cassy. "Your hair looks cool. I'm James Chou." he says with a grin as his red hair blew in the wind. His eyes matched shell's to the T. Shell laughs a little at James, before walking a little bit towards Cassy and kissing her cheek, then pulling her into a hug. "Never pretend you're dead again..."

“Yes really.” Cassy repeated. How many times would she have to say it till it sunk in? Cassy smiled as the little boy spoke. “Thanks.” She said. Despite having red hair, James really reminded Cassy of Shelby. She held back a laugh as she wondered how many kids Shelby had now. The amount had always confused Shelby. By the looks of him, Cassy was sure he was born years after she left. “Yeah, well it was best for everyone.” Cassy said trailing off slightly not wanting to go into detail while her kid was around. Her story wasn’t really a happy one, so she didn’t want him to hear. “But I promise. I won’t again.” Cassy added.

"Sorry, just it's hard to believe is all." she says with a faint teary laugh. She leans back some and watches James just stare up at the two of them. "Momma, who is she?" Shell smiles down at the five year old and picks him up. "This is Auntie Cassy. She went on a trip. And she's Dori and Julia's momma." she says slowly, before glancing back at Cassy. "The girls are beautiful Cassy. Julia is exactly like you and Dori is like me in a way."

As Shelby brought up the twins, Cassy’s eyes shifted towards the floor. Even though she knew her leaving was for the better, she couldn’t help but feel guilty for abandoning them. “Typical Julie.” Cassy said trying to smile. She always had a gut feeling that Julia would be like her. Dori on the other hand, was always more of a mystery. Cassy was never sure what to expect of her, so being like Shelby was no surprise, especially since Shelby practically raised her. Deciding that the question couldn’t go avoided any longer, without looking up, Cassy asked, “They hate me right? With good reason. I’m the worst mother ever.”

Shell bit her lip a little more before sighing a bit. "I'm sure they don't hate you Cassy. They don't call me mom, always Shell." I say weakly to her. That always stung a bit, as it seemed that I raised them but they of course weren't technically mine even as I raised them as mine. "No you're not. You were a high class order member who took on hard missions. Just like Nick did. He was gone for a while too..." I say trailing off as I glance down at the little boy in my arms. "Think we should go inside before he gets too cold."

Cassy bit her lip not sure of what to say. Shelby as good as raised them, and they couldn’t even acknowledge that? “Right. They don’t hate me, because they think I’m dead. You can’t hate a dead person.” Cassy said. She sighed at the mention of the order. At the time she had joined it, it had seemed like a good idea, but all it seemed to end in was misery. Before Cassy could shut her mouth though she said, “So Nick’s alive to then huh?” In some ways this comforted her, knowing she wasn’t the only idiot who abandoned their old lives for safety. “Alright.” Cassy said following Shelby into the house.

"I'm sure even now that you're alive they will understand." she says with a smile, but Shell wasn't certain of course. She couldn't think for the girls. They were thirteen now. "Yeah, he wound up on my doorstep a few years ago after you um. died." she says softly before glancing down at James who seemed really confused now. Shell nods at her before walking back into the house and looking at the usual mess. "Sorry for this. I guess things never change."

"The thing is Shell, I'm thinking it's best that maybe they don't know I'm alive. I haven't been a real mother to them, and probably never will be. Rightfully, your their mother." Cassy said. She wasn't sure how Shelby would feel about this. It did make sense for the twins to rejoin Cassy, but she wasn't sure about that. Cassy had never wanted to be a mother, in fact, she didn't really like kids even. Cassy looked around the house, and said, "It seems they really never do."

She sighs lightly before setting James down and watch him run upstairs probably to tell the others about the strange lady that was here. "Cassy, you're their birth mother. I know that I raised them but I think you should still meet and spend time with them." she says softly before laughing a bit. "I'm slowly buying new things. I started playing quidditch again."

"I don't know Shelly. My parents as good as left me too. At an older age maybe, but if they came back into my life suddenly, I wouldn't be able to stand that site of them. How do you know they're not going to feel the same way?" Cassy asked. When Cassy had returned she had felt everything would be better, now though things were only more confusing. Trying to smile, Cassy said, "That's great!" For a moment, she thought about the days she used to dream about going on to pro quidditch. That was so long ago.

"Because I raised them and if I know the girls well enough I think they would be a bit confused and bitter about it but they would come around eventually." she says softly before smiling at her friend. "Thanks. It's really just to make the ends meet as I'm a widow again..." she says with a shrug. "I think I'm destined to be alone."

"Exactly! You raised them, you know them. I know nothing about my kids. What kind of terrible mother am I?" Cassy said more talking to herself then to Shelby. "You and me both." Cassy said with a weak smile. It wasn't that Cassy was unattractive, or unlikable, that she never had any serious real relationship, it just seemed that every guy she met was always the best friend, and never the boy friend.

"You're not a terrible mother Cassy, no matter what you say. And maybe we should start up something so that doesn't happen." she says sarcastically giving her a wink before sighing a bit. "Want something to drink or eat?"

"I am and don't try to tell me other wise. I had a choice Shelby, a very hard choice, but I didn't have to leave. I choice to, and although it may have been for the better, I left. What kind of mother willingly leaves her children?" Cassy said. She couldn't help but laugh at what Shelby said. Shelby always did have a way with cheering her up. "Sure." Cassy answered smiling.

"I let mine leave the house pregnant. That doesn't make me a terrible mother. And you leaving them here is not terrible either. You didn't leave them at an orphanage or something like that which is terrible. Although some might think this is after how many children I have watched over the years." she says softly before grinning at her. "Sure for the relationship or sure for the food Cassy? I'm sure we have cookies or sugar around here somewhere."

Cassy cracked a smile and said, "So one of yours is pregnant huh? That's news to me. I guess that's going to make you a Grannie." Holding back laughter Cassy added, "How many is it now? Eight? Ten? I can see how they would think that." Cassy had always had problems remembering all of Shelby's kids. There was just so many of them. "For the food." Cassy said rolling her eyes. She perked up at the mention of cookies and sugar and said, "I can't believe you still remember."

"Yeah, she already had her baby. Girl of course. Her name is Kalin." Shell says before gasping slightly. "Yes I'm a grannie. It bothers me a little bit but oh well." she adds with a laugh. "I have eleven thank you." Shell grins a little as her eyes rolled around as well. "Well you weren't specific. And who couldn't remember that?"

Cassy burst out laughing and said, "Sorry, but now that you're a Grannie you just seem so old." As Cassy calmed down she asked, "Kalin is such a beautiful name. So, details! Which one of your little rascles is the mother?" Cassy rolled her eyes and said, "Ten. Eleven. Close enough, and as for who can't remember, that is a very good question."

"I'm only thirty two!" she says in protest, causing her to frown a little. "Zoe is the one." Shell adds quickly before shaking her head at one of her best friends. "So what will it be Cass, sugar or sugar cookies?"

"You may only be 32, but you're still a Grannie to me." Cassy said grinning. Learning that it was Zoe actually came as no surprise to Cassy. If it wasn't Jenny, then it would have to be Zoe. "I don't know! It's such a hard choice." Cassy said in deep thought over which one to choose.

Shell grins back before shaking her head. "I already told you really. Jay died, got remarried, the guy disappeared, lost a baby, joined back up on quidditch and quit my job at Hogwarts recently." she says listing them off with a faint nod everyone she named.

"Very dramatical." Cassy said with a grin. "Sounds a lot more intresting then my life on the run. I mean, compared to playing pro quidditch and all the stuff, hiding out in random countries sounds like..." Cassy said thinking for a moment. Thinking of no better words to describe it, she said, "very very boring."
