"Must I be so negative?" I repeat, raising an eyebrow, "Well, how else am I supposed to be?"

"I don't know, try talking to him? He's got to forgive you sooner or later,"

I raise an eyebrow again, then just shrug slightly. I have tried to talking to him, but it seems the more I try the more he resents me.

"Poppy needs new robes for next year, swear she and Alex need to stop growing so fast. Have to take him along too, he's excited for next year."

"That should be fun for you," I grin. I don't even want to imagine Poppy and an overexcitable Alex in close proximity of each other. It's just asking for disaster really.

"I didn't plan on it," I laugh wryly, shaking my head. It's just that I actually really can't do anything that could be turned into a career. And my whole not relating very well to people thing doesn't tend to help either. Neither does my track record. And my lack of consistent education. It's just a lot easier to accept watching kids as a full time thing instead.

I smile weakly, leaning back against the couch. I really didn't have much to add to that. It was just good to have him back home.

Sinking down onto the couch as I decide I've had enough of standing now, I fall silent for a moment, not sure quite what to say. Since I've gone and come home again, this has happened a few times, whereas before one of us would fill the silence with something that didn't make sense. I'm not sure if this is a bad or good thing.
